Tuesday 3_6...Our Touron Day
Lamb and venison for breakfast? Why not. Our celebratory dinners really had became celebratory breakfasts. We played tourists today and visited the gift shops and the Te Anau Wildlife center. Got some gifts and a watchband that didn't work out too well but it did work. After exploring many options we finally settled on 1 day on theKepler Track and all 3 days that we had already paid for on the Routeburn. The main change to our original plan was that we opted not to do the top of the Routeburn as we had heard it was very rocky and even harder that the Milford...albiet shorter. We will never know since we booked 1 day at the Howden Hut and then arranged for a bus trek around to the other end and 2 days at the Routeburn Flats Hut.
About 2 pm the rain started and continued for another 2 1/2 days. We had been very lucky and didn't mind the rain at all as it was sorely needed. We spent the rest of the afternoon eating dinner and watching the local Cinema showing of a movie made about the area by a local cinematographer. He spent 2 years shooting footage from a helicopter and got some marvelous shots. Anna Marie bought the DVD for Frank.
